what are your kids reading??

This is our new favorite...

...Andrew and I read a TON of books. I have been reading to him ever since he was a tiny baby, reading a different book to him each night before bed. I think it is important for parents to instill a strong love for reading early on- to make it something fun and interactive that you can share together.

While I went through a huge time period of buying new books all the time for Andrew, we finally clued in to the library and LOVE to go while away time there... we peek through new books, choosing dozens.. and I do mean dozens.. of books to bring home with us. (Hey, there's no limit to how many you can check out- believe me, I asked!) We even go to Barnes & Noble to look at the new books, write down the ones we are interested in, and then go request them from the library. It costs nothing and is something so worthwhile that kids can enjoy. I think so much today gears towards entertaining kids, as opposed to teaching our children how to entertain themselves. Andrew loves to get a stack of books, curl up in his bed, and flip through the pages. And that makes me happy to see. :)

So I want to know which books you loved as a child, or which books you are reading with your kids at the moment?? The one I have pictured above, A Grand Old Tree, might be the sweetest story I've ever seen- the illustrations are what hooked me! :) Andrew and I found it yesterday at the library and he loved finding all of the little animals in the trees when we read it tonite.

Ooooh!!! And you know what else I checked out from the library today that I have been waiting WEEKS for???!! Ghost Whisperer Season Two!!! Wooooooooo!!! You know, I am opting to stay in on a Saturday night and have a date with J. Love and her ghosts... and I couldn't be happier! And tomorrow while Andrew is with his dad all day, I will be snuggled on the couch watching more hehe. I hope you are all enjoying a cozy and happy weekend as well... xo!

"Kiss Goodnight" by Amy Hest is an awesome book for little kids. I read it to my almost 6 year old granddaugher at least twice a week. It is a very sweet story.

My little man is eight months old, and we do alot of reading. I have a basket of hid board books down for him, and he pulls them out and is starting to turn the pages. I love watching him look at the pictures and touch the pages. I still remember reading with my mom every night before bed and am so glad that I get to share that with my little guy! Right now, we mainly do board books so the pages don't get ripped or eaten. Eric Carle is a favorite.

My kids and I love the David books. They're by David Shannon, and they are just soooo cute! They make David books for little tiny kids, which I bought all of them for Chase, and they make them for a little bit older kiddos too. Logan has them all. They are books I will save forever.

Oh we LOVE to read too! So nice of you to read to Andrew every night, that is wonderful! My oldest is a reading machine, that's all she ever wants to do and she's reading 3 grade levels ahead. We've had to learn to visit the library frequently too although there are some series we always buy like "Magic Treehouse," the Disney Fairies series, Junie B. Jones (back in the day), and I've always loved "Where the Wild Things are!" Now my daughter is into the "Emily Windsapp" series...the list goes on!

So I've given you an award girlfriend ;-) Come and grab it here...

Ooooo I love the Ghost Whisperer! Such a great show! :)

My son is 20 months and right now he loves Dr.Seuss books and also the story The Night Before Christmas. I've tried putting that away for next year but he keeps asking for it haha.

We did what you are doing and read to our kids every night before bed. I loved that quiet, cuddly time. They are both ravenous readers today. That was a long time age - they are 18 and 21. We did read the Junie B. Jones series - you will laugh out loud at Junie B. and her antics.
