what I thought about TWILIGHT! :)

So I was there in full force at midnight last night to see Twilight. We got there around 10:30pm and waited until 12:01am, which was probably a mistake on my part. I was sooooo tired. And this morning is even worse. I think I may be getting too old for midnight movies.... someone remind me of that when Harry Potter comes out this summer. :)

Anyways, first of all let me say that the right actors were definitely chosen in this film. Edward and Bella are exactly like I imagine them in my mind while I am reading these books.
And, Edward is freaking hot. Yum! Vampire! ;)

Overall, the movie was GOOD. But, and I hate that there has to be a but, BUT.... as a hardcore fan of the book, it isn't quite as good. As to be expected, right?? There are amazing parts in the movie, and then some that completely fall flat. (Meadow scene, anyone??? Totally sucks in the movie, which made me want to cry. And Edward's "sparkle" is little more than him looking kinda shiny in the sunlight. Not what I had in my mind.) Then there are some parts that are SO laughable, even when I was trying not to think it was funny! (Example: biology class on Bella's first day... the look on Edward's face made me crack up... but that is a serious part in the book, and I didn't want to be sitting there laughing!!!)

Another thing I have to slightly criticize is how fast the movie moves through the story. Nothing is fully developed, Edward and Bella's romance is not fully dived into, and the whole James storyline at the ending is so fast and slightly confusing. Had I never read the book, it might have been hard to keep up. BUT had I never read the book, I may not be nit-picking like I am.

I feel like I am coming across like I didn't like the movie, which is totally untrue. It was amazing to see Bella and Edward come to life on the movie screen and to see this story come to life. I really did enjoy it, and I feel like given the two hours a movie devotes to a story, they packed in all they could.

One great thing about the movie is they really do focus on the EYES. The red eyes, the black versus golden eyes of Edward and his family, then comparing them to Bella and the kids at school.. there is definitely a difference between the vampires and the regular people.

The movie ended really strong, completely opening it up for the second book to be introduced. Victoria and James are frightening, which is definitely how it should be... I was a little wary of that cute red-haried girl playing Victoria. She was on "What About Brian" and I loved her, and I couldn't imagine her being scary. Well, she did it. Those red eyes were freaky.

So go see it,

let me know what you think,
whether or not you have read the book, etc!
I am dying to know what non-twilighters think of it...
leave me a comment with your thoughts!

Now I need a nap. :)

And PS. Team Edward!!!
What was with all the "Team Jacob" people at the movies???? Jacob was totally creepy, I don't know how I'm going to deal with New Moon haha!!!

First of all, that first picture you showed is HOT! I can't believe that people complained about the guy (his name??) they chose for Edward looking like a gargoyle (when he was first cast)!!! They are going to eat their words for sure, now! I find him charming and easy on the eyes.:) Can't wait to see the movie!!! Lori

I am counting down the hours! Your review sounds like what I am expecting of the movie. The movie is NEVER as good as the book, except for the Notebook (movie was much better) and I would think that would be especially true of Twilight. But it is still to do with Twilight, so I am crazy for it LOL I just want enough people to go see it, so they make the rest of them. I am hoping with a bigger budget, they can do the other books much better with the special effects.

Hope you get some rest! At 37, I KNOW I am too old for the midnight movies lolol we are going to the last matinee, hoping to avoid a bunch of screaming teenage girls this way ; )

i'm surprisingly not tired today!! I went to the 12:01 showing last night too and didn't get home until 2:35!!

I loved the movie. It will NEVER be better than the books but that's the way i like it and that's to be expected.

I did notice it went a bit faster but it was a 2 hour movie so how much longer could they go really?

Edward was freaking hot in his suit for the prom. I liked it and wasn't disappointed in the least bit even with the cheesey parts and how fast it moved.

ps there were NO team jacob fans at our theater :)

Edward is so hot! I'm going to see it on Sunday with one of my Twilight friends. I CAN'T WAIT! It's killing me. "Team Jacob" you're kidding right.

I went to the midnight show also and needed to take a 3 hour nap this afternoon. It was good, but not great. I agree that they rushed through it too fast. I thought some of the clips at the end of the movie were great. Didn't like the look on his face in the Biology class and I didn't like the look on his face after the kiss. Liked the kiss, but no the look. It needed to be a 4 hour movie to really give it some depth. But, I would go see it again.

Haven't read the books (yet)-- haven't seen the movie, but Cedric Diggory has come a long way...

HOLLY! I totally agree with you on alllllllll counts. Movie moved too fast, loved Kristen and Robert, was disappointed with the meadow scene, TOTALLY cracked up at RP's expression in biology. In the book, I felt like he was way more confident about everything (except how Bella felt about him) than in the film-- how he dazzled everyone, etc. That confidence was what makes him so swoon-worthy! Wasn't feeling RP's confidence. Loved Victoria, James was too hot to be scary, and I really hate Jacob in the books....butttttt I have to say he is so cute in the movie (I am ashamed of myself). I loved all the music, loved the kiss scene, loved the baseball scene (hated it in the book), but was bummed the Cullens didn't have more speaking lines. And Jasper looked like he was constipated the whole time. Sorry for the novella on your blog comments!!! xo

I totally agree with you on the cheese in the movie. Our whole theater starting laughing on Bella's first day in Biology. Esp. when Edward looked like he was gagging. And Jasper's deer in headlights look throughout the WHOLE movie was a little creepy. But I tell ya who I liked the most ... Charlie - loved him in the movie more than I did in the book. All in all, still loved the movie, bad acting and all. Edward and Bella were great together. (oh ... and found you through Flirty apron swap)

The movoe was... okay! Although, I have never seen a movie adaptation of a book that rivals the book. The book is always better, always. :)

ok so- my vote's still out on this one, I can't seem to figure out if I liked it or not. I guess overall I did, because it's twilight! But there were some definite dissapointments, like all the parts where I was laughing that probably weren't meant to be funny! :) And what was with Jasper- he was weird! I thought it moved way too fast, like you said... the characters weren't developed well at all. I guess it's hard to remember all that was only in the first book- but Alice and Bella's friendship didn't seem like it was there at all like it was in the books. I don't know, just lots of ifs- but bottom line, edward is still edward! :)

ok...your thoughts are my thoughts on this. It's like I liked it..BUT. Exactly. I feel kinda shortchanged on the Edward/Bella romance end of it...it's like I didn't feel it like I do in the book. As much as it pains me to say, I almost got more chemisty b/t Bella and Jacod than I did with Edward! Ugh! I LOVE Edward in the book, but I didn't totally love him in the movie. More like lust-crush him in the movie.
