Andrew and his best friend Owen were ready to be big first graders!
I cannot believe I have a first grader.
How does time fly like this?!
BUT...
our first week of school has been extra stressful.
Because California is broke and our schools have no money,
just about all the kindergarten and first graders are in combo classes.
We were very happy that Andrew was placed in the first-second grade combo class, however the budget crisis has left the school with not enough teachers. Which means that Andrew's class has a substitute until they can find a permanent replacement!! NO TEACHER! Am I wrong to be pissed about this? For small children who crave routine and stability, I think it is terribly irresponsible for the school to leave this classroom to a substitute for who knows how long. We were mad. The principal was avoiding the parents and we still haven't got a lot of answers as to what's going on. All I know is that I am crossing my fingers and hoping for a great teacher as soon as humanly possible. The classroom is bare, nothing on the walls, and my child came out of his first day of school telling me that he hated the class and the teacher. Not what any parent wants to hear. :( Cross your fingers for me, too. Budget or no budget, they should have a teacher in there on the first day of school. Ugh! Frustration.
Here's to hoping each day gets a little better.
Enjoy your day, xo! :)

oh no holly!! i can't believe that. you are completely right to be frustrated. i'd be a hot mess over it! i'll be thinking of you guys and hoping it gets settled soon.
what i have to say is that this is what is life. Life is always not so easy... ther will be ups and downs... this is first learning for your child. Make him understand that you may not like the school or teacher but you may have to undergo this situation throughout your life...am i right. Face it you wont regret....Learning is not all about the books this also forms part...
Hey Holly!
I'm playing catch up since vacation; lots of great posts, girl!
So sorry about the no-teacher/budget situation...I really feel for the principal and teachers though too...coming from a family of teachers, it's insane what they have to put up with. My husband is a teacher and is working 2 full time jobs at the school under a one-job salary (full time teacher and gear-up liason, which USED to be a full time position itself!) But they have to do what they have to do and everyone is making sacrifices. Still, I hope Andrew has a full time teacher soon...a spectacular one at that!!
Oh dear! That's not a great way to start the new school year! Hoping things get settled there soon. Hang in there!
btw...He's gotten so big :)
Wow, we are having budget issues here in AZ too, but I would think that there would be NO PROBLEM finding someone to hire. I am so sad that your little one's beginning is off to a rough start. :(
You guys are super cute...he is going to be a heart-breaker ;) No teacher...oh my, I'd be upset too! I hope that he gets a permanent teacher soon.
And hey, I forgot you lived in San Deigo! We visited there a few weeks ago and I LOVED IT!! I've been blogging about it too, tee hee.
Jamie :)
