We ordered this Land of Nod bed for Andrew about three years ago when we moved back to San Diego.
Big mistake.
We ordered the "barn red" color for him, and it showed up and the color was less barn red, and more purple. It was the weirdest shade of red I have ever seen, and completely misrepresented in the catalog and online. See that photo above?? That is the color his bed looks now that we had to PAINT over the weird purple-ish red color. PAINT over an already painted bed, and an expensive bed as well!! Shouldn't it already have come in "barn red"?! AH. That was problem number one. Problem number two came when we tried to put the darn thing together. It was an absolute nightmare. It was so complicated to get together and when I finally got it done and ready for the mattress to set it, it wouldn't fit the mattress!! So there I was, shoving a mattress into a bed frame that should have fit it easily. Ugh. So, we got it together eventually and Andrew has used it these past few years and it has turned out fine.
That is, until I had to take it apart to move it. Oh. my. gosh. After several failed attempts at getting this stupid bed apart, I resorted to using Andrew's mattresses with a regular bed frame in his new room and yesterday, I did the unthinkable to a Land of Nod bed. I ripped it apart with a pick-axe. Yep, my son's expensive bed frame now resides in the dump. So take my advice here, mommas- don't get duped by those cute catalog pages displaying the picture-perfect kids rooms, and be swindled into buying the products. I was cursing Land of Nod as I was swinging an axe yesterday.... AH, never again.

OMG, that totally Stinks Holly! I'd have to give ol' Land of Nod a call and do some chattin' hehe. I'm sorry you had to take a pic axe to it, but I bet you felt a little better afterward? Glad the move is almost complete too, yay!
Jamie :-)
Oh No! I could have told you to NEVER order from them! I know all the manufacturers that make their furniture! Some of them are drop ship and Land Of Nod, Poverty Barn (hee hee) and others rarely see the items. So sorry! Let me know if you need a new bed and I can get you a great deal...and wholesale too! LOL!
xx Molly
how sad! i can totally see you killing the bed though, lol.
GOOD TO KNOW!!!! That is horrible! Did you call them? YOU MUST! Sometimes they will really compensate if they know that their items gave such heartache!
Holly, That "Land of Nod" catalog is adorable, but after that expensive bed turned out to be such a disaster & the company not easy to deal with I will NEVER purchase anything from them again!...I am glad you let others know!!!....Your mom! XO
I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Please, please call them and relate your frustration. If you are not happy with the first response, call again and again until you get someone who will do something. And mention your posting to let them know about the bad publicity.
Yikes! I know those beds are expensive, so I'd be mighty ticked off at having to take an axe to it!
I love their catalog too, but refuse to buy overpriced, poorly made goods. I don't buy from Pottery Barn either!
IDIOTS! Seriously. I liked that you could use a pic ax and not hurt yourself. You Go Girl! I'm impressed.
Oh, that sucks! yuo must have been furious! all that for nothing!
Too funny!!!! Been there done that too, but only once, and like you, never again!
That sounds like something I would do !!Kathy
Hi Holly, that is just awful about the bed :( I'll make sure to steer clear of those beds *grin*. I just wanted to let you know I've nominated you for an award :)

I took had a bad experience with Land of Nod in March 2009. We ordered their "Two over Four" dresser in a dark wood color to match my son's new room. It was pretty pricey ($799) and replaced his old $69 Ikea dresser (which was still really usable). The main reason we bought the Land Of Nod dresser was to make my son's room a nice matching "big boy" room.
What a freakin' mistake!!! We got it, it looked beautiful. The problem, it was much smaller in drawer space, but worse the drawers keep getting stuck in the rails. Every drawer gets jammed and we have to play around with it to make it go in. My poor son always has to call me to push it in.
To top it off, we ordered replacement knobs to dress up the dresser. They were recommended by Land of Nod so I went ahead and bought ten of them; $60 for knobs!! Anyways, they didn't fit. The screws they gave us were too short. How do you give the wrong size screws to a product you recommend for the dresser. Anyhow, I returned that. But unfortunately we still have the pricey dresser.
Never ever again will I buy from an online catalog. Because they are affiliated with Crate and Barrel is why I thought the quality would be good. We have C&B furniture and they're great. Unfortunately, my son's furniture isn't so great.
BTW - posted a a review on their website twice on the piece. Ask me if they posted it...NOT!
