What I Wore Wednesday

It's been a while since I've been on my blog. Oops! With a baby around, sometimes things get crazy and my blog is the furthest thing from my mind! That being said, I'm back and I am even participating in The Pleated Poppy's link up today. :)

Sweater: Target (I love oversized comfy sweaters, so I found this extra-large on clearance in the plus sized area. Obviously too big, but I love cozy and this is totally it!)
Leggings: Lauren Conrad brand from Kohl's (love her line there!!!)

Dress: Target (for like $7 on clearance. Love!)
Shoes: Aerosoles and so amazing. :)

Sweater: Old Navy
Tank: Target
Jeans: Jolt skinnies from Nordstrom Rack

Sweater: Hollister
Tank: brand new from Gap clearance the other day...love!
Jeans: LEI skinnies from Wal-Mart

Again, I love to shop in a budget and love finding things in sale. I adore putting together simple outfits and am a bargain super all the way. Keep following my blog for more! :)

What I Wore Wednesday

Lately, I have been in a little bit of a clothing rut. Since I had my baby only two months ago, I am still feeling fairly frumpy most of the time. So dressing super cute has not been my number one priority. Comfortable outfits have been my go-to lately. :) I think that publicly displaying my outfits will help with that a bit, so here we go! Do you participate in What I Wore Wednesday?

Here is my caveat... I do not buy expensive clothing. My favorite places to shop include Forever 21, Kohl's, Target, Old Navy and yes, even Wal-Mart!! I love finding a great deal and I love bargain shopping, so these places always seem to have the best deals for my money. Here are some of my recent outfits.
Sweatshirt: Hollister
Tank: Target
Jeans: Jolt skinnies from Nordstrom Rack
Sparkle flats: K-Mart

Polka dot top: From my sister! :)
Jeans: Jolt skinnies from Nordstrom Rack

Top: Target
Jeans: Jolt skinnies from Nordstrom Rack
Flats: a Christmas gift from my sister! :) LOVE the jeweled bow of the toe!  So cute!

White sleeveless top: Wal-Mart
Plaid shirt: Old Navy
Jeans: LEI skinnies from Wal-Mart
Flats: same Christmas gift flats from my sissy!

Alright, those are the post worthy outfits...the rest of the time, I was probably in leggings and a sweatshirt. :)  Or pajamas and a bathrobe. ;)  Hop over to the Pleated Poppy to see the rest of the WIWW posts for the week!  So glad to be doing this again!
xo!

yellow wedding dress? love!

600-Tamblyn-100912-jpg_150706
I loved the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies.
Like, loved them. :)
So imagine my happiness when I saw that Amber Tamblyn got married over the weekend in a beautiful & rustic outdoor setting.  And she hopped out of a red canoe to walk down the aisle barefoot with her dad in a..... YELLOW dress.
Um, so darn cute.
Could it be any more romantic????!
I am a sucker for cute weddings and this one tops the charts.
Plus, all her Sisterhood gals were there looking adorable as well!
Love, love, love.
Happy Tuesday!

Homemade Halloween... A Guest Post & Giveaway from Bringing Up Burns! :)

Good morning, blog friends! Welcome to another day of handmade fabulousness!! Today we have a super fun tutorial from Erin at Bringing Up Burns who is so creative! :) And make sure to enter her giveaway... details at the end of the post! Another giveaway will be today at noon, don't miss it!

----------------------------------------------

Hello fellow Mommy Holly readers!

I'm Erin from Bringing Up Burns.

When I'm not busy "bringing up" my goblins, I love to create, sew, bake, blog, run and read. I also gather ruffles and twirl rosettes to fill my shop, Haute Blue B, with fabulousness.

Today, I'm going to show you how to make one of my most popular items.

A Haute Ruffle Tank...with a Haunted twist!

You'll need:

One tank top
Two 1/8 yard pieces of Chiffon (Halloween themed if you want!)
sewing machine & accessories

Take your first piece of Chiffon and cut it into a 3 inch wide strip the length of the fabric (usually 54 inches)

Take your second piece of Chiffon and cut it into a 2 inch wide strip.

Set your sewing machine to the longest stitch length.

And the tightest tension!

Place the 2 inch strip on top of the 3 inch strip so that one edge matches up. Fold the raw end under.

Begin sewing down the right side about an inch in from the edge. Remember to back stitch when you start!

As you stitch, the tight tension and long stitch length should work to automatically ruffle up your two layers of chiffon nice and neat!

Continue down the length of the fabrics until you are almost to the bottom end.

Again, fold under the raw end, and then finish stitching, remembering to back stitch when you are done!

Adjust your stitch length and tension back to normal and then stitch your ruffle to your tank. I like to add it to one shoulder and a little down the neckline. Try to stitch right over the gathering stitch. You'll probably have to go slow and stop and start a bit to keep the ruffle from bunching up!

Super cute! Easy! Festive! and Fun!

You can use the same technique to make ruffles out of light weight cotton too!

As long as your fabric is not to heavy, it should ruffle easily.

Here's another example of a tank I made using cotton ruffles and some Rolled Rosettes!

So...What do you think of the Haute Ruffle Tank? I'm quite taken with the Haunted Twist.

Since my girls are too big for these tanks, I'd love to give them away to Mommy Holly readers! Do you know a little size 2T-4T someone who would look cute in these tanks? Let Holly know in the comments and she'll pick two winners. I'll mail them ASAP so your goblin can be HAUTE this Halloween!

Happy Haunting!
~Erin
