a fast & simple project!

263601384409212602_nwdHjyXt_c

I came across this photo on Pinterest today- not sure of it's original source, but I think it is a company that sells these signs.  It got me to thinking- HOW cute is this idea?

All you'd have to do is glue wooden letters that you can easily buy at any craft store for cheap onto a canvas, again from a craft store.  Or you could even glue it to a piece of plywood you can grab at the hardware store.  Really anything you can think of would work, in any size you might need.  Glue those letters on where you want them, and then spray paint the entire thing in ONE flat color.  {Who doesn't love a little spray paint, anyways?!}

This is such a gorgeous idea, and so effetive!  Now the wheels are turning for my own house- where can I hang one of these???!!! :)

busy = unorganized.

When I get busy,
things tend to get
very

disorganized in my life.

Case in point:
My office & studio...
z 715
Clutter, clutter, clutter.
Paper is shoved into my shelves,
my drawers won't stay closed,
and the orders are piling up.

This room needs a major re-haul very soon.
Spring cleaning is high on my list.
{My pending orders are on the to-do list first, of course.}
I need to play catch up and brighten my workspace though. I am thinking of making some cute wall art that will inspire me each day when I walk into my office, and I will share those ideas with you very soon. Cute things are in the works, for sure.

And speaking of cute things, could these butterflies get any cuter???

The "mellow yellow" color is available in the shop here!

And the "girlie pastels" have been listed for sale as well!

SO happy and spring-y, wouldn't you agree? :)
As always, convo me if you need more than one pack or different color schemes and I'd be happy to make some custom items for you.

Happy Friday, friends!

bedroom re-do, part one: prep!

The countdown has begun:
5 days until I begin!
Andrew will be spending this upcoming weekend with his dad, so Saturday morning begins the crazy HGTV-style redesign! Part one has been deciding what exactly is on my to-do list. Errands, paint, wall decals... I need to compile all of my items before Saturday so I am one hundred percent ready to go.

Ideas have been swirling in my head and I have gathered lots of inspirational photos for this project!
Here are my main goals:
1. Organization: like the photos above, I need everything to have a place. So key in any child's room, especially my cluttered pack-rat six-year old. :) Furniture needs to have a purpose and function, along with being attractive.
2. A Fantastic Desk Area: Andrew is a crafty kid. He likes to draw, create, and have a space to spread his things out. And with being in first grade now, having more and more homework to work on, his desk area needs to be wonderfully functional and it needs to be a focal point in the room.
3. Modern, Boyish, Yet Whimsical Decor Theme: Andrew is not a toddler anymore, so some things have to go. He needs a room that transitions into a "kid's space" but also including some whimsical childhood details.
4. Streamlined Color Scheme: Navy and Red. That's it. Right now it is a mish-mash of colors and it's driving me crazy. :)

Ikea has been a lifesaver. I love how modern and cute everything is, and for so cheap. I bought Andrew sheets for $5!! Ikea rocks.

A girl on a budget + Ikea = serious love. :)

Above are some of the pieces I have picked out so far for the room. Just quick sneak peak, but don't fret- I'll have everything completely itemized after it's done. Links, where to get what, etc. Total organization- I've turned over a new leaf, people! :)

I am fairly sure I've got most of what I need, but here are a few dilemmas you might be able to help me with:

1. He's got a bright yellow plastic Ikea desk chair that is driving me crazy. Has anyone used that plastic spray paint?? I am hesitant to try it out, but I might need to do something. Paint it white? Paint it red? Help, please. :) It was cheap, but I hate to spend any more money than I have to, so I am trying to repurpose what I can.
2. A dust ruffle is needed. I can't find one at Ikea {bummer!} and I can't find one at Walmart that I like. I am looking for an inexpensive, regular ruffled dust ruffle like this one that I can embellish with some navy trim. I found one online that is a wrap-around style, but am nervous to order it. Any ideas??

Now it's off to sew some simple curtains for the room {fabric from Ikea!- woo!} and organize a few more things. I am so excited. Check back in for more room updates!
And PS.
I am so surprised I've kept this whole deal a secret as well.
He is going to flip when he sees this room. :)
Happy Monday, friends!

digging out the old magazines.

z 016
I dug out all of the old Martha Stewart Kids magazines that my mom has kept for years. And may I ask, why did this magazine ever stop?! It is amazing. Every issue is full of the cutest seasonal ideas and now I am feeling extra inspired! :)
I'll be sharing some of these fun projects next week.
Andrew and I are headed to Washington to visit family next week,
but I will have lots of blog posts set for you all while I'm gone! :)
Do you have any crafts that you and your kids like to do together?
Do share! :)
Happy summer crafting, xo!
PS.
Giveaway winners will be announced a bit later today!!

Let's just say that this one was a HUGE hit. :)
He hasn't stopped playing with it.
Best cheap summer investment ever!

Summer dinosaur camp started yesterday for Andrew.
He is absolutely thrilled!!
When we get home after camp,
we make some fabulous art pieces,
then take a dip in the pool.
Andrew's summer is complete so far. :)

busy, busy!

I've got lots of projects lined up for myself on the very near horizon... I am in the mood to pretty up my bedroom, which means pillows are being made! I have busy at work on a large custom order for my shop which is finally done and now I am trying to get the shop ultra-stocked! I've been scouting out vintage papers and bits to do some special new things with in the shop as well, which I am super excited about. I am planning a "Christmas in July" sale to be very spectacular and I can't wait to share it all with you. I am planning a GREAT GIVEAWAY week beginning Monday in celebration of my 300th post! Busy, busy, busy... right?! :) Whew- but I'm loving it. This is what I want to be doing right now. I feel blessed to be able to create things and love having an outlet to do so!
Soooo, here is the adorable new fabric I picked up at our local Yardage Town. They have such funky, different fabrics and I fell in love with both of these. One is a retro "suburban" neighborhood print, complete with barbecue grills and campers! AH, so cute! The other is a European village scene print which I totally adore! Can't wait to create some things out of these... I am still trying to decide what to use them for. Any ideas?! :)

And here are some new little goodies in the shop...
...cute and bright "you rock" tags!! Love these! :)

...and two adorable vintage-inspired scalloped tags!

And don't forget that
EVERYTHING
in the shop is
20% off
until June 14th in honor of the YART sale... do your shopping now while it is ALL on sale! :)

I hope you all are having productive and creative weeks.... what is on your to-do list lately?! xo!
